Offers are a powerful tool for selling to customers. Whether it's a flash sale, buy-one-get-one-free deal, or a holiday discount, offers can drive more sales to your farm, helping you achieve your goals for this season.

However, for offers to work, they should be front and center in your online store. The more visible the offer, the more success you’ll see. Beyond being visible on your online store, there are many e-commerce best practices to implement. In this article, we walk through ways to integrate your offers into your Local Line storefront, so your products sell out in no time.

Ready to learn how you can run offers through your Local Line store? Keep on reading!

Use these e-commerce best practices to maximize your sales potential

But first, if you want to learn the formula for crafting great offers, check out our blog on how to boost farm sales with offers or watch our webinar recording, Maximizing E-Commerce Success: Crafting Offers to Boost Farm Sales.

1. Place offers near the TOP of your store

Local Line Storefront

Add a category with your highlighted products; in this case, we’re running an offer on new products. Place this category at the top of your Local Line storefront. Customers will be welcomed with your most captivating offers and products right at the beginning.

Organizing by category allows customers to see your featured offers at first glance (e.g., “New Products, “Discounted Products”, “Limited Edition Products”). They can also filter through the categories they’re interested in if you have multiple offers available.

How to create a new category in Local Line

To add a category in Local Line, navigate to Price Lists in your back office and select the price list you want to edit. From there, click Edit Categories, then Add Categories, proceed with the prompts, and Save. Once the categories are created, select the product(s) you want to assign a category to with Move to Category, then Save.

2. Customize your storefront message

Local Line Storefront

Customizing your storefront message is a great way to boost visibility around your offers. For example, you can include a welcome message followed by your list of weekly deals (e.g., "Heirloom tomatoes are 50% off", "Buy one pack of bacon, get one free”). This will help your offers stand out and encourage customers to enjoy your amazing deals.

How to update your Local Line storefront message

Go to the Price Lists tab and either Add a Price List or edit an existing price list through Edit Settings. Add your custom message to the Storefront Message section and Save.

You can customize messages to different price lists for your different customer segments (e.g., Retail, Wholesale, CSA members, Saturday Delivery) and maintain them separately. This ensures the right customers are seeing the right offers.

3. Create product tags to showcase your product

Product tags give you the power to organize your products and highlight special offers for specific products (e.g., “Best Sellers”, “Farmer’s Favourite”, “Limited Quantity”, “On sale”). Tags can be effective for ongoing offers. Further, they can assist your customers in finding the exact offers they’re looking for in a clear and organized way.

How to add a product tag in Local Line

To add a product tag, head to the Products tab. Click on New Product or click an existing product to edit. Type the keyword tags into the Product Info section, and Save.

Note that product tags are different from categories. Categories provide a structured and organized way to group products, while product tags describe specific attributes of each product. You can add multiple tags to a product and use the same tags for different items, giving you ultimate flexibility in organizing your offers.

4. For offers on products, send unique product URLs

Local Line Bacon Product Page URL

When promoting an offer on a product, send customers to the product URL rather than to your storefront (i.e., in our example, the promotion is sending traffic to Counter Culture’s bacon product page). This way, customer traffic is sent to the specific product, increasing the likelihood that the customer will follow through on the purchase.

It’s worth noting that your storefront page does not equal your product page. Your Local Line storefront page showcases all your products (i.e., all the meats and vegetables you sell) for customers to browse around. Your product page on the other hand displays the individual product (e.g., bacon).

How you send the unique URL to your customers is up to you (i.e., email or social media), but we suggest using email as it’s more direct and immediate.

5. Minimum purchase for free delivery

Offering free delivery with a minimum purchase amount (e.g., $25, $50) can be a great incentive for customers to complete their purchase and increase their average order value. It entices people to buy more to take advantage of the deal.

In your delivery settings, you can add a minimum order quantity to qualify for free delivery. To do this, navigate to the Fulfillment tab and either edit an existing delivery plan or add a new one. Next, head to the Delivery Fees section and toggle on the Minimum Purchase to Qualify for Free Delivery. Set your desired amount, and Save! It’s as easy as that.

6. Send scheduled price list emails

Local Line Sending Scheduled Price List Emails

Sending scheduled price list emails is a great way to ensure optimal visibility of your offers. This helps generate more awareness of your products and trigger a purchase. With Local Line, you can choose to send scheduled or one-off price list emails to your customers.

Here's an example of price list email sends:

  • Every Sunday, send all your customers a scheduled price list email highlighting your start-of-week offers (i.e., new addition of fruit and veggies).
  • On Friday, send a one-off email to specific customers (i.e., long-time customers) highlighting another offer (i.e., discounted price on all fresh greens) for end–of-week products.

How to send scheduled price list emails in Local Line

To send scheduled emails with Local Line, visit the Price Lists tab and go over to Edit Settings (if you don’t have a price list yet, set one up with Add Price List). Scroll down and toggle on Schedule price list update emails. From there, write an email highlighting your offers and include URLs linking to your product offers. Then, select your schedule (i.e., how often to send the email, what day(s) to send, and what time). When finished, hit Save

If you plan to change your offers, make sure to update the scheduled price list email before it goes out (i.e., if you have scheduled emails on Sunday, update the email on Saturday to ensure your customers are getting the right information).

How to send a one-off price list email in Local Line

To send one-off emails with Local Line, visit the Customers tab and select your customer(s). Once selected, click Price List Email and write your email with your offers and include URLs linking to your product offers. When you're done, hit Send.

Local Line recently updated its feature, so you can now select as many customers as you need in the Customers tab.

7. (Coming soon) Add coupon codes to checkout

Local Line (Coming Soon) Coupon Codes

We are excited to bring you coupon codes! This feature will allow you to create bespoke codes for all your different offers (e.g., new customer incentives, holiday discounts, referral vouchers, and more).

By offering coupon codes, customers are more likely to complete their purchase thanks to a reduction in price (e.g., $5 off, 15% off). A study done by Capterra shows that 78% of online consumers didn’t follow through with a purchase because they didn’t have a coupon code.

With Local Line coupon codes, you can customize your coupon code from the name to the discount–whether that’s a percentage or dollar amount. Choose the duration of the coupon’s availability or expire it when you want. Keep up to date with all things Local Line to be notified when this feature launches.
