Subscription Enhancements: Save Time & Lock in Recurring Farm Revenue

Offering farm subscriptions is a huge part of selling farm products direct-to-consumer. Many farms today are opting to offer a flexible CSA, monthly meat box, or farmer’s choice subscription to lock in recurring revenue and increase their customer retention.

Sandy and the team at Pretty Road Farm Co. launched their Farm Food Monthly Subscription Boxes a little under a year ago (after wanting to do so for over 30 years) and have found great success!

Enhancing Local Line’s subscription feature

At Local Line, we build the best sales software for farmers, food hubs, and producers. After launching our subscriptions feature in fall 2023, we have made many improvements to save you time and improve your workflows.

Here is a list of our recent improvements:

  • We introduced a new orders table within each subscription plan, giving you a clear and organized view of all orders generated.
  • We released the ability to update fulfillment within an existing subscription, creating the ultimate flexibility for you and your customers.
  • Our new bulk actions for subscription plans is here to make your workflow smoother and more efficient.
  • Enhanced subscription filters are now available to help you stay organized, especially during your busiest season!

Generated orders table

With a subscription plan, orders are automatically generated based on the subscription frequency (i.e., monthly or weekly). With this new table, you can now, at a glance, see all generated orders for that subscription plan. You can see when the order was created, opened, fulfilled, how many products were included, the total cost, and the status of that subscription (i.e., whether it was skipped or if there was an error).

This enhanced visibility is valuable when dealing with customer inquiries or seeing the potential for upsells. You can quickly see how long your customers have been subscribed and how often they take actions, such as skipping their orders. Additionally, these insights might showcase upsell opportunities, such as after your 10th subscription order, receiving a $10 credit using Local Line’s coupon codes.

Updating subscription plan settings dynamically 

Your subscription frequency and fulfillment might change over time. With this new update, you have the ability to update: 

  • Fulfillment option: Switch to delivery or pick up.
  • Time slot: What time the subscription order will be available for pick up.
  • Frequency unit: How your subscription frequency is measured. For example, in weeks or months.
  • Frequency value: How many weeks or months are in between fulfillment? For example, switching from every week to every two weeks.
  • Next fulfillment date: Select exactly when the next fulfillment date will be.

When managing tons of subscription plans, bulk actions can come in handy! They allow you to apply actions to multiple plans at the same time. We added a bulk skip and cancel to your subscription plan table. This is helpful during the holiday season (i.e., maybe you skip a week) or when subscriptions are no longer available.

Improved filters for peak organization

Keeping organized is critical for running subscriptions. With our new filters, you can search for all subscription plans with a specific product and status (e.g., Active or Cancelled). These filters can be helpful for exporting lists for active subscription plans, or notifying plan holders when a certain product has limited stock or is no longer available.
